Keep on going, you have some lovely confident brush strokes in this last piece. I don't think it's possible to ever fully figure out watercolour... Just when you think you've got it the darn paint, paper, water and brush go and surprise you! That's the beauty of it. The blog is great though, a real online sketch book showing progress and commitment!
Nice to see your work starting to blossom Ako. Keep plugging away, filling up sketchbooks and blank sheets...That's the surest way to discover art and creativity :)
Hi Ako - Your flower is lovely! Flower petals take awhile, and watercolors are sure fun..I have been experimenting a bit myself and am trying hard to let the colors do what they want to do more, instead of over-working them. Your sketches and constant work are giving you confidence in your work - you really can see it!! Great blog, and I give you a pat on the back for your hard, hard work and persistence...keep up the great work!
Thanks for visiting my blog. A fellow artist! Watercolor is such a fun medium to work in. I just started getting back into it. Have fun and look forward to seeing more of your work!
Well done Ako! You're learning well! How do you like watercolors? I love them, although I need to practice more. I'm definitely out of the comfort zone with them. I do love vibrant, organic watercolors though!
Man it has been ages since I used watercolors, I should dig mine out... The thing I like about them is just layering big swatches of color on top of each other over and over and not getting too tight with the rendering. In your picture you captured the silhouette of a flower really well and it feels very natural good job!
Totally new. It all started with a sketchbook I got in January 2009, drew the likeness of my daughter (to my surprise), got inspired by cartoonist Lynda Barry, then this blog was created in May 2009.
I must confess that getting visits from wonderful stranger artists out there is a thrill.
Everyone is welcome and thanks for visiting!

Charming. Next time don't bother with a background. It would be more subtle without one.

ReplyDeleteLoni, I'm still "you never know how it will turn out". But I've seen so many fine works that I'm just eager to try.
